What factors make for a successful Paintless Dent Repair?
A successful candidate for PDR is minor damage where the paint surface is still intact. Factors that limit a successful PDR include:
- Flexibility of the paint: most refined auto finishes allow for PDR but there are some unique cases where the paint is not flexible enough to work with the tools used.
- Stretch of the metal during damage: the extent at which the metal was stretched by the damage depending on the thickness of the metal, the curvature or flatness where the damage occurred and the intensity of the impact are all factors that can prevent a successful PDR.
- Depth of the dent: the shallower the dent, the more likely the repair can be completed using PDR. Experienced technicians can repair a shallow large dent or crease but very sharp dents and creases may not be suitable for PDR.
